A little while ago I wrote a post about hubby wanting to move house. After exploring this option, along with the idea of renovating, we have decided we can’t afford to do ANY of it at the moment. We are going to wait a few years before revisiting these ideas.
So where does that leave us? Well, we are trying to fit a study into a 3 bedroom house and it’s not easy. We are thinking of ways to utilise every piece of space we can find, which means clever storage.
Hubby had built some huge shelving units which were going to go into our bedroom, but we are now moving the desk in instead, so the shelves are going into the toy room. They provide great storage for all the kids’ books and toys.
One other thing we are planning to do is to put shelves and drawers into the kids’ wardrobes. Currently, they have just a clothes rail and one shelf, but with the multitude of flat pack inserts around, we are really going to use every inch of space available.
At the moment, the toy room wardrobe houses a big chest of drawers that contained all of the kids’ craft supplies. It takes up a lot of room and I figured we could downsize and get rid of that chest. This frees up space to build the wardrobe inserts.
So here is the new solution.
I bought a scrapbooking storage unit and managed to fit everything from the chest of drawers into this one, much smaller piece of furniture. And because it’s out of the cupboard, the kids (or mainly Megan) has ready access to all the bits and pieces so that it reduces the out of sight, out of mind problem.
I’m sure things will change and we will need to rearrange again, but for now, it works 🙂
